The year was 1999. To most, it seemed the barbering trade was breathing its last breath. Nevertheless, Layrite’s passionate Founding Barber, Donnie Hawley, was still in hot pursuit of perfecting his clients’ haircuts. His technique was being hindered by the traditional petroleum-based products his patrons wore that wouldn’t rinse out. Never wanting to limit style, yet committed an elevated standard of barbering; Donnie labored to find a solution. The end result was a water-soluble pomade Scientifically Formulated to “Hold Like Wax and Wash Out Like Gel.”
After one of Donnie’s patrons commented that his pomade was the only product that made his hair lay right, a brand was born. Layrite Men’s Grooming Products have been setting the benchmark of traditional barbering and men’s grooming ever since.

KASHO shears feature two different stainless steel alloys in order to meet the high Japanese quality demands for sharpness and material. The combination of different hardness grades means that every pair of shears is perfectly balanced and guarantees that the cutting edge is exceptionally durable. The unique “Ultimate Edge” KASHO shears blades are guaranteed to cut accurately, making them a pleasure to use.
The unique manufacturing process ensures the necessary precision of the concave inner surfaces (hollow ground) and convex outer surfaces of the shear blades. The convex-edged shear blades are characterized by their exceptionally durable cutting edge. These blades are honed to an extremely sharp state with the inner side hollowed to such a point that the blades only touch at the point of intersection. This refined technology ensures superb cutting edge durability, while at the same time reducing cutting edge resistance to a minimum – and thus considerably reducing hand fatigue.
Every pair of KASHO shears is supplied with optimal tension settings. However, these do occasionally need to be checked and readjusted as required, to ensure the durability of the cutting edge and to guarantee ease of use. Ricardo Vacas, owner of the firm Kerp Photography, always showed intense interest in many forms of creative arts. His professional photography career started in his home country, Spain, where he was the official photographer of several music bands, models and clothing brands. He decided to move to Wellington, New Zealand in 2012, knowing his real interest was fashion photography more than any other field. For nearly 75 years BeautyCouncil, the former Cosmetology Association of Western Canada, was a provincial government regulated body for the cosmetology industry. When government regulation ceased in 2004, the industry created a voluntary association comprised of caring, driven and committed professionals who recognized a need for industry standards to be upheld.
